V&A Museum of Design Dundee is the first ever dedicated design museum in Scotland and the only other V&A museum anywhere in the world outside London.
Following an international competition that received over 120 entries, Japanese architects Kengo Kuma & associates – who also designed the Tokyo 2020 Olympic stadium – were given the go ahead to implement their outstanding design in Dundee.
Opened in 2018, the three-storey museum is an impressive 8,000m² building, with 1,650m² of gallery space.
We are very proud that The Expanded Metal Company was able to supply a range of expanded metal mesh products to a leading contractor on the project: these were used in the construction of several striking interior features at V&A Museum of Design Dundee.
The museum, which cost £80.11 million to design, construct and fit-out, had more than 800,000 visitors in its first year and contributed £75 million to the Scottish economy. Visitors can access exhibition galleries focusing on historical and important objects from the V&A and collections across Scotland.
V&A Dundee hosts international touring exhibitions and has made Dundee an international centre of design and the only location in the UK outside London to receive these globally significant exhibitions.
It is at the heart of a £1 billion waterfront transformation, an ambitious 30-year project driving Dundee’s future growth.
