To celebrate National Manufacturing Day 2025, we’re opening our doors here at The Expanded Metal Company and inviting students, educators, past employees, locals and anyone with an interest in manufacturing or engineering to get involved in a range of exciting activities this September.
As part of the celebrations, we’re running a mascot design competition for local college students. The challenge is to design and make a mascot that features at least one piece of expanded metal and is no bigger than 35cm. The winning entry will become our official company mascot for a year, and the student or team behind it will receive a £250 prize. Final entries will be presented and judged at our Hartlepool site on 25th September 2025. We can also supply expanded metal to students who need materials for their creations.
On 25th September, we’ll also be hosting a coffee morning at our site in Hartlepool, along with guided site tours at 9:00am, 11:00am and 2:00pm. These are open to anyone interested in finding out more about what we do. Whether you’re from a manufacturing or engineering background, a former employee, a student, or simply someone curious about the world of expanded metal.
In addition, we’re offering a work experience opportunity for students during the week of 22nd September 2025. We have 15 spaces available for students to spend time onsite, shadowing our team and learning about our business and the manufacturing processes we use. It’s a great chance to gain real insight into a working industrial environment.
If you’d like to book a tour, attend the coffee morning, register for the challenge, request sample materials, or enquire about the work experience programme, please get in touch with Jo Lloyd at jo.lloyd@exmesh.com.
We’re excited to be part of National Manufacturing Day and to share what we do with the wider community. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating the people, creativity and innovation behind UK manufacturing.
