Fine metal mesh for battery component manufacturers
The Expanded Metal Company has the capability to manufacture metal mesh at such small scale that it can be used in batteries.
Our expanded metal foils can be beneficial in both primary (non-rechargeable) batteries and secondary (rechargeable) batteries. The micro sized mesh can be used as a support structure to hold electrodes in place, a current collector and can provide an electrical connection point for the external circuit.
Used within secondary batteries, such as those being developed for use in electrical vehicles, our highly conductive micromesh has beneficial properties including being lightweight.
And it is available in a range of materials such as copper, stainless steel and aluminium – which are cost-effective alternatives to silver and gold and offer the same conductive properties.
Metal mesh for EV batteries
Manufactured from a single piece of material, through a process of stretching and slitting, our battery cell mesh provides a greater surface area than solid metal. This increases the energy density and improves the capacity within EV batteries.
In addition, the micro apertures of our expanded metal foils provide a uniform patterned surface that delivers contact between the conductive micromesh and the surrounding area – supporting its conductive properties.
Benefits of micro expanded metal foils
We combine our 19th century heritage with 21st century innovation when developing our range of micro expanded metal mesh solutions.
Having invested to our 25,000+sqm site in Hartlepool the machining capabilities to manufacture micromesh we support battery manufacturers in extending the product life of their secondary batteries.
Our micromesh is a cost-effective alternative to perforated metal – especially when using high value raw materials such as platinum and silver.
Utilising our extensive manufacturing and fabrication expertise we manufacture micromesh to an end user’s exact requirements. Talk to us about how we can support you.
